About Authors
Bjorn Sortland is a Norwegian author known for his works for children and teenagers. The winner of numerous awards and prizes, including the Emmausprisen Prize, in the `Best Norwegian Children's Book` category. He was born in 1968 in Bergen, Norway. Educated as a sociologist, he also studied at the Academy of Writing in Hordaland. Since 1998 he has devoted himself entirely to writing. After his debut book "It is not the Night" (1992), he wrote a number of children's and teen stories. His works have been translated into 20 languages and have won numerous Norwegian and international literary awards. Sortland's books are characterized by a light, humorous style, which is combined with a serious perception of the children's world and their problems. With the help of fiction, the writer spreads knowledge and passion for art - in children's books, short stories, illustrated publications and books full of drama and tension, such as the popular `Art Detective` series. Each book in the series is dedicated to the adventures of one Norwegian family in different cities around the world. The books reveal in detail the architecture and the main historical monuments of the cities where the events take place. The peculiarity of each work is its focus on the promotion of art, the objects of the detective components of the plot are the famous works of Picasso, Matisse, Van Gogh and other artists. Sortland also reveals some of the psychological problems that are common in children of primary, secondary and senior school age.
Trund Bredesen is a Norwegian illustrator born in 1956 in Drammen. He now lives in Oslo. He has worked extensively in advertising and design, working with many Norwegian companies, designing logos and designing packaging for goods. Bredesen has received several awards for his illustrations, such as the Golden Pencil Award in the 1990s, `The Most Beautiful Books of the Year` Award, and the award from the Ministry of Culture.
