Sarah Crewe is a seven-year-old girl who perceives the world as an adult. Her favorite pastimes are reading books, playing with her Emily doll and composing her own stories. But none of the girl's preferences can be compared to her love for her father, Captain Crewe, who loves her just as much and gives her daughter many presents. The kind and shy Sarah always knew how to see people through. From the first meeting, she recognized the headmistress of the school where her father had arranged her as an insidious and cruel woman. The headmistress reveals her true face as soon as the tragic news is brought to the school. This work has a pronounced autobiographical character. The author's childhood was not particularly happy. Her father, Edwin Hodgson, a wealthy merchant from England, died when she was three years old. Burnett's mother was left a widow with five children. The family later moved to America.Alone in a new country, wealthy Sara Crewe tries to settle in and make friends at boarding school. But when she learns that she'll never see her beloved father gain, her life is turned upside down. Transformed from princess to pauper, she must swap dancing lessons and luxury for hard work and a room in the attic. Will she find that kindness and genorosity are all the riches she truly needs?
