Finding and viewing buildings that belong to a particular period or art movement turns into an adventure, a kind of quest emerging the time perspective that composes the picture of the urban landscape.
The author of the book, Ksenia Stepas, invites the reader to look with new eyes at Kyiv, explaining the strange architectural term "mascaron", but also answers questions that interested people, artists, architects: what were considered beautiful, interesting and meaningful in the time when houses were built.
Walking through a city such as Kiev, which has a long history and is characterized by a variety of architectural styles of buildings that belong to different times is similar to seeing a kaleidoscope when the pattern changes with every turn of tube.
The majority of the Kyiv houses to which this book is dedicated were built in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Kyiv Mascarons invites us an adventure in the city, offers the opportunity to use it as a guide to the Art Nouveau style.
