- A warm and touching Christmas story
- Sincere love and true values
- Perfect for reading in family circle
One dollar and eighty seven cents is all the money Della has to buy her loved one a Christmas present. She has nothing to sell but her only treasure which is her long charming brown hair. This classic work of American literature tells the story of a young couple and the sacrifices which each has to make to buy a gift for another. Love is the only thing that can be safely given away, and it will come back to you a hundredfold.
Beautiful illustrations by Sonja Danowski and a fairy-tale translation by Mykola Baidyuk create an atmosphere of comfort and tenderness.
About Authors
О. Henry (1862—1910) was an American writer. At the age of twenty, he moved to Texas and settled in Austin. Having changed many professions (pharmacist, cowboy, salesman, etc.), he became a cashier at the First National Bank, while engaged in journalism. In July 1887 he married Este Atoll. In 1896, suspected of embezzlement, he fled to Honduras, where he awaited the arrival of his wife and young daughter. However, Atoll died of tuberculosis, and in 1897 Porter returned to Austin. A year later, he was found guilty and sentenced to five years in prison (he spent three and a half years in prison).
O. Henry occupies an exceptional place in American literature as a master of the genre of short stories. During his life, O. Henry wrote 273 short stories, and only one large work - the novel "Cabbages and Kings". The complete collection of his works adds up to 18 volumes. Henry's characters are diverse: millionaires, cowboys, speculators, clerks, laundries, bandits, financiers, politicians, writers, artists, painters, workers, engineers, firefighters - all take turns.
Sonja Danowski lives and works in Berlin. She is mainly engaged in illustration, writing books and drawing pictures. She prefers the creation of children's and adult illustrated books. She has many professional awards around the world.
